Endangered Animal Handprint Craft

Learning about the animals on our earth that are endangered or threatened is important for showing kids how our actions can cause environmental changes in animal environments. The endangered species list has over 15,000 animals on it meaning they are in danger of going extinct. The list includes animals like the mountain gorilla and blue whale, along with thousands more of earth’s creatures.

Today we’re doing handprint art of different animals on the endangered species list. This is a good way to introduce younger kids to animals on the list, some of which they may already know and love.

Animals you may not know are on the endangered species list include:

  • Cheetah

How to Help the Environment from Home

There are just so many animals in danger of extinction that I can’t list them all! So let’s start by making kids aware of these species and explaining what they can do in their environment to help.

  • Reduce waste
  • Use eco-friendly products
  • Recycle and upcycle

Research how your family can help the environment right there in your own community.

Take paper plate and turn it right side down.

Using pencil, trace hand print onto the back of the paper plate.

Determine the direction of the handprint depending on the animal.
For instance, for the Chimpanzee I had fingers pointing up. For the Brown Bear I had the fingers pointing down.
